Best of Nišville coming to Belgrade in “Sava Centar”

On Sunday, 2nd of December, starting from 20:00h, as a part of its mission to decentralize the cultural scene of Serbia „Nišville comes to Belgrade“, five concerts and two exibitions will be held in the grand hall and the foyer of “Sava Centar” in Belgrade.

In the grand hall of “Sava Centar” the following performances will be held:

* Nišville Big Band conducted by Ph. D. Dragoslav B. Petrović

* Eyot, the absolute best Serbian jazz collective within international scope

* The legendary GIPSY KINGS with their founder Paco Baliardo, this years winner of Nišville Grand Prix of the festival „Šaban Bajramović“ awarded to the best jazz fusion musicians of the year.

In the foyer of “Sava Centar” the following performances will be held:

* Nišville Youth Orchestra, which was created as a part of the European RYCO project Sarajevo – Niš – Tirana

* Jayus Jazz, the opening sextet for the following 25th Nišville Jazz Festival anniversary.

In addition to the concerts, the visitors will be able to enjoy the works of the Niš fortress art colony, „Art to go jazzy“, in the foyer of “Sava Centar”, as well as work of comic illustrators of „Striporama“. As a part of “Striporama” the work of Victor Bogdanovich, the illustrator of Batman and Superman will be shown among others.

Nišville invites everyone to come and feel the magical atmosphere found only on the grounds of the largest art festival in Serbia, and according to “The Guardian”, one of the best European festivals.

Up until 9th of July, tickets for the upcoming Nišville Jazz Festival, which will last from the 3rd to the 12th of August in the city of Niš, Serbia, will be sold at their promotional prices: Ticket sets at the price of 25 euros, Individual tickets at the price of 13 euros, VIP Ticket sets at the price of 34 euros, and Individual VIP Tickets at the price of 17 euros.

Nišvile, Syri Blue i Motus adulescenti are inviting young musicians

 

RYCO supports „Sarajevo – Niš – Tirana Youth Jazz Project“

 

Nisville Jazz Festival, together with its partners (Syri Blue from Tirana and Motus Adulescenti from Sarajevo) on the project „SaNiTi (Sarajevo – Niš – Tirana) Jazz Project“, invite young musicians (those who already play jazz as well as those who intend to take more active part in this music genre) from these cities – to apply for participation in this project. This project is one of around thirty that received a grant in the first competition of the Regional Youth Coordination Office (RYCO), with more than 400 applicants.

„SaNiTi (Sarajevo – Niš – Tirana) Jazz project“ is going to bring together 24 young musicians from these three cities (eight per each – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia). this autumn. The project involves individual work, band rehersals in all three cities – with the support of local musical coordinators as well as gatherings of all participants who will, together with the music coordinators, practice musical works that are going to be performed in all thre cities during important music events such as the Nisville Jazz Festival or the Tirana Jazz Festival.

To participate in the project,  instrumentalists and vocal soloists up to 27 years can send applications to the following e-mail addresses:

… and registration will last until June 25th.

 

Musicians in each of the three towns will practice both their own jazz program as well as compositions they are supposed to perform together, including „Nisville Jubilation“,written by the great jazz musician Dusko Gojkovic, who has dedicated this song to the bearer of this project. Also, the idea is that the joint program is composed of one traditional composition from each country, played in jazz manner, because this is the best way for young people to get to know the tradition of their neighbors through the music.

The first gathering of all participants is planned during the time of the Tirana Jazz Festival – in late July; the second one during Nisville – from August 5 to August 12, and the third at the end of September in Sarajevo.

 

Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO) is an international organization, founded by the Western Balkans governments: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, aiming to promote the spirit of reconciliation and cooperation between the youth in the region through youth exchange programs.

The Agreement on Establishment of RYCO was signed by the WB6 Prime Ministers during the Western Balkan Summit held on 4 July 2016 in Paris.

Legends of jazz vocals coming to Serbia

Nišville presents: The Manhattan Transfer!

The most impactful and the most popular jazz vocal group of all times – The Manhattan Transfer – will make their debut in any of the countries that made up former Yugoslavia on Friday 10 of August, the second day of Nišville 2018. Quartet’s is presently made up of Janis Siegel, Cheryl Bentine, Alan Paul and last but not the least, Trist Curless, who is now a part of the group instead of the founder Tim Hauser, who tragically passed away in 2014. The impressive career of this group, spanning four decades, can be represented most briefly by the following numbers: 29 albums, 10 Grammy awards (20 nominations), the only group which earned 2 Grammy awards in the same year (1981) for best performance in both jazz and pop, and their masterpiece “Vocalese”(1985.) is the second most nominated piece with 19 nominations, after Michael Jacksons’ “Thriller”. In 1998. the group entered “Vocal Group Hall of Fame”, and besides the incredible vocal performance their concerts are always guaranteed to have an amazing show for everyone whether a jazz fan or no. Long time music director of the group is pianist Yaron Gershovsky.

Renowned American singer and actress Lisa Simone will perform on the 11th of August of this years Nišville jazz festival. Lisa Simone is the daughter of late and great jazz, soul-rhythm, blues singer and fighter for civil rights, Nina Simone. With this performance, Lisa will commemorate her mothers 85th birthday, as well as her entry to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. (више…)

An all-star ensembles come to Serbia

Black Art Jazz Collective, an all-star ensemble of young American African musicians celebrating black culture in a positive way through music is going to perform at Nisville 2018 at Sunday, August 12^th. The Collective was co-founded by saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, and drummer Johnathan Blake. All graduating from esteemed music programs in the Northeast at the same time, the three quickly became ingrained in the New York Jazz scene as leaders and invaluable members of ensembles led by legends like Tom Harrell, Bobby Hutcherson, Wayne Shorter and Ron Carter and others.
