  • The World Reggae Sensation MORGAN HERITAGE Comes to Nisville!

Two-time Grammy Award winners to perform in Serbia for the first time!

On Friday, August 15, 2025, the Jamaican roots reggae legends MORGAN HERITAGE will take the stage as part of the Nisville Festival’s main program.
Founded in 1994 by the five children of reggae icon Denroy Morgan — Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakamya “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan — the band made their breakthrough at Jamaica’s Reggae Sunsplash Festival that same year. Shortly after, they signed with MCA Records and released their debut album, „Miracles“.
Their discography grew with spiritually charged albums like „Protect Us Jah“ (1997), „One Calling“ (1998), and the groundbreaking „Don’t Haffi Dread“ (1999). They further expanded their musical legacy with three compilation albums under „The Morgan Heritage Family & Friends“ series, followed by the live album „Live in Europe!“ (2000), recorded during their tour.
In 2003, they released their sixth studio album, „Three in One“, along with two live DVDs — „Live in London“ and „Live Over Europe 2003“. „Full Circle“ (2005) and the critically acclaimed „Mission in Progress“ (2008) followed.
After a hiatus where members pursued solo projects, the band reunited in 2012, releasing the single „The Return“ and announcing a new album. „Here Come the Kings“ (VP Records, 2013) marked their triumphant return, followed by another European tour.
Morgan Heritage’s 2015 album, „Strictly Roots“, earned them their first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album (2016). They continued their success with „Avrakedabra“ (2018), which secured their second Grammy in 2019 — a rare feat in reggae music.
Tragically, in February 2024, the band’s lead singer, Peter “Peetah” Morgan, passed away at the age of 46, leaving a profound void in the reggae world.
Reflecting on their journey, Roy “Gramps” Morgan shared:
“’Strictly Roots,’ our tenth studio album, holds special significance. It was our first independent release under our label, CTBC Music Group, after years with VP Records. VP was incredible to us, but we felt it was time to explore new creative avenues.”
Blending their signature organic roots sound with eclectic influences, „Strictly Roots“ pays homage to reggae’s pioneers while forging a bold path for its future. As Peetah Morgan once said:
“We know what our fans want—we know where to take them and how to get them there.”
This is a historic opportunity for reggae fans in Serbia and the region to experience the legendary Morgan Heritage live — for the first time ever in Serbia — at the Nisville Festival on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Niš Fortress Plateau!
  • The band from Indonesia “Keubitbit” at Nisville

The group Keubitit from Indonesia, which combines world music, folk and fusion jazz in its expression, will perform in Nashville on Saturday, August 16.

Keubitbit is an ethnic music group from Jakarta, Indonesia. Formed in 2014, the name Keubitbit is derived from the Acehnese language, meaning „solemnity.“

The band consists of seven members: Safrullah ‘Aloel’ (electric bass/lead vocals/band leader/producer), Indra Fahmi Hakim (drums, percussion), Raden Trio Ananda Bagus Prakoso (saxophone), Trinanda Imawan Wibisono (keyboards, acoustic piano), Teuku Hariansyah ‘Apoen’ (Rapa’i percussion, gendrang), Fahmil Arabi (lead vocals), and Didin Marlin (guitar).

Inspired by the spirit and musical nuances of the Sumatra coast originating from Aceh, Keubitbit strives to delve deeper into Aceh’s musical traditions. These traditions are then packaged with a blend of ethnic music in modern and contemporary forms.

The genres performed by Keubitbit include world music, folk music, and fusion jazz.

Keubitbit’s overall discography to date includes four albums released in 2017, 2021, 2023, and 2024 along with six singles released in 2018, 2019, 2024, and 2025. One of the songs titled „Peumulia Jamee“ is a collaboration with an urban dance from Aceh known as Ratoeh Jaroe.

Keubitbit achieved the highest accolade for Indonesian music and musicians, marking a historic moment for Aceh’s music scene by receiving the Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards in 2020. They were awarded in the category of „Best World Music Production“ for their song titled „Saban Sabee,“ making history as the first from Aceh to receive this recognition.

Keubitbit is inspired by concerns over the gradual fading of culture over time. As the love that once guided us fades, Keubitbit strives to revive the longing for cultural processes and events.

Keubitbit’s artistic philosophy revolves around creating works born from a concern for the stories of the past, which often now remain mere tales among the older generation, especially among today’s youth. Keubitbit emerges as a bridge between modern and traditional cultures, presenting them side by side for the world to enjoy.

In addition, Keubitbit focuses on being a platform domestically that fosters the development of a new musical civilization within the Indonesian music landscape, particularly in Acehnese music. Keubitbit’s works often explore themes of social conditions, cultural diversity, and traditions rooted primarily in Aceh, addressing various issues from different aspects of life.

Keubitbit’s uniqueness lies in the use of traditional Acehnese percussion instruments, combined with melodies that carry nuances of Middle Eastern music, complemented by the distinctive rhythms of Rapa’i.

The incorporation of Acehnese lyrics with fast-paced singing techniques, fused with rhythmic music, gives Keubitbit’s music a strong character.

Rapa’i (a traditional percussion instrument from Aceh) is the primary musical instrument used to strengthen the character of Keubitbit’s songs. Keubitbit combines it with modern musical instruments to achieve harmonious perfection.

  • Billy Cobham at Nišville

The Most Influential Jazz-Rock Drummer Returns to Niš

Drummer and composer Billy Cobham, one of the most influential jazz fusion musicians from the second half of the 20th century to the present day, will perform at the opening of the upcoming Nišville Jazz Festival (Thursday, August 14) with his project Spanish Contingent, featuring Emilio Garcia on guitar, Victor Cisternas on bass, and Jorge Vera on keyboards. Cobham first performed at the inaugural summer edition of Nišville in 2006 and is now returning for the festival’s landmark 20th open-air edition.

Cobham was inducted into Modern Drummer magazine’s Hall of Fame in 1987, and Classic Drummer magazine honored him in their Hall of Fame in 2013. Steve Huey, a biographer for the renowned online music database AllMusic, stated: “Billy Cobham is universally recognized as fusion’s greatest drummer. His explosive technique powered some of the genre’s most important early recordings — including groundbreaking works by Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu Orchestra — before he became an accomplished bandleader in his own right. At his best, Cobham harnessed his incredible ‘thunder’ technique to high-octane hybrids of jazz complexity and rock & roll aggression.”

William Emanuel Cobham Jr. was born in Panama (1944) and moved to the U.S. at the age of three. He began playing drums at just four years old and, within a few years, was performing alongside his father, a weekend club pianist. He received his first full drum set at 15 and was admitted to New York’s High School of Music & Art. Drafted in 1965, he spent three years in the Army Band before joining Horace Silver’s Quintet after his service. He worked as a studio musician (Atlantic Records, CTI, Kudu) and played on albums by major jazz and crossover artists (George Benson, Milt Jackson, Grover Washington Jr., etc.). With the Brecker brothers, he formed the band Dreams (which also included Barry Rogers and John Abercrombie). A defining “master stroke” in jazz-rock came when Miles Davis invited him to collaborate, resulting in albums like A Tribute to Jack Johnson and Big Fun. In 1971, Cobham and guitarist John McLaughlin founded the Mahavishnu Orchestra, still regarded as one of the most significant groups in the genre.

His debut solo album, Spectrum (1973), for which he wrote all the compositions, was an instant sensation—topping Billboard’s jazz chart and reaching No. 25 on the Top 400 albums chart alongside the era’s biggest pop and rock acts.

His influence extended beyond jazz, inspiring progressive rock contemporaries like Bill Bruford of King Crimson and later musicians such as Tool’s Danny Carey. Prince and Jeff Beck have performed their own versions of his famous composition “Stratus” in concert. Phil Collins, a pop superstar in recent decades but once a highly regarded drummer for Genesis, cited Mahavishnu Orchestra’s The Inner Mounting Flame as a key influence on his early style.

To date, Cobham has released nearly 50 solo albums and contributed to hundreds of recordings across jazz (and other genres), collaborating with artists such as Ron Carter, Mose Allison, the Brothers Johnson, James Brown, Kenny Burrell, Stanley Clarke, Larry Coryell, Deodato, Gil Evans, Roberta Flack, Peter Gabriel, Freddie Hubbard, Quincy Jones, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, and Miroslav Vitouš.

  • Viktoria Tolstoy and Jacob Karlzon Trio at Nisville

Viktoria Tolstoy and Jacob Karlzon Trio at Nisville

Great great granddaughter of Leo Tolstoy – the Swedish jazz star arrives in Nis

One of the best jazz vocalists in the world, the Swedish jazz singer of Russian origin Viktoria Tolstoy, will perform at the upcoming Nisville with the trio of the famous Swedish pianist Jacob Karlzon on Saturday, August 16.

Although it immediately „catches the eye“, in the official biography of Viktoria Tolstoy it is only at the end (under trivia): „yes, she is the great-great-granddaughter of the famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy“!

Viktoria has (from 1994 to date) released 14 solo albums, guested on a dozen other musicians’ releases, including two albums with the famous Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren („Funky ABBA“ and Sentimental Journey). Apart from Landgren, she has collaborated with all the leading Swedish jazz musicians (Ulf Wakenius, Esbjorn Svensson, Svante Thuresson, Putte Wickman, Arne Domnerus, Jojje Wadenius…), but also with big world names: McCoy Tyner, Ray Brown, Toots Thielemans… Viktoria performed all over Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland. Italy, Spain…) but also in South Africa, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico… She is a favorite singer of Pat Metheny, whose composition „A Moment of now“ is performed by Viktoria on her homonymous album. The famous guitarist once told her: „when you sing – the sun rises“.

The aforementioned Nils Landgren, who is also her friend and producer, says : She is a totally natural talent, someone who just gets it all in an instant. No explaining has to be done when learning a new song, no corrections has to be made when recording. Viktoria is simply an extraordinary talented woman with an almost scary instinct for different styles and modes. No matter what she takes on, she nails it right away. And, she delivers every time and, how she does it! On top of that, she is someone to hang with and to have fun with, on and off stage which is a very important aspect in the way of getting along with an artist. Her laugh is famous as well as her sense of humor. Often with a twist but always positive. Her smile melts glaciers and her appearance does never go unnoticed. In a word: Viktoria is a complete artist. – Nils Landgren, producer and fellow artist.

Jakob Karlzon, who often collaborated with Victoria (they also released the duo album „A moment of now“) who will accompany her in Nisville with his trio, has released about fifteen albums under his own name, and has performed and recorded with well-known world names, including Dominic Miller, Billy Cobham, Kenny Wheeler, Bob Berg, Jeff Ballard, Nils Landgren, Rigmor Gustafson, Norma Winstone….

On the already mentioned album (for voice and piano) „A moment of now“, which will be the basis of the program for Nisville, Viktoria and Jacob Karlzon in a very specific way perform compositions by authors ranging from Cole Porter, through Metheny and Zawinul, to Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Allais Morrisette and Mark King… Thus, the Nisville audience will almost certainly hear the big hit „Lessons in love“ twice. The first time in the original performance of „Level 42“ at the opening on Thursday, August 14, and the second time – on Saturday, August 16.

  • Stereo MC’s performs on August 16th at Nisville!

Stereo MC’s performs on August 16th at Nisville!

The famous British hip hop / electro funk band Stereo MC’s will perform in the main program of the upcoming Nisville Jazz Festival on Friday, August 16, 2025 at the Nis Fortress Plateau.

Stereo MC’s are Brixton via Nottingham’s globally revered Hip-Hop/Electronic dance pioneers. Best known for their international Top 20 hit single ‘Connected’, which was released in 1992 and taken from the ‘Connected’ album of the same year. The album reached #2 in the UK Album Chart and also contained the aforementioned hits ‘Step It Up’, ‘Creation’, and ‘Ground Level’, and led to the group winning two Brit Awards for Best Group and Best Album in 1994.

Being childhood friends and neighbors, Rob and Nick formed Stereo MC’s in the mid-eighties, with the pair inspired to make music by their combined love of early hip-hop, funk and electronic music. The Stereo MC’s initially pressed their first 12” vinyl and started their own independent record label called G Street Records with Kiss DJ Richie Rich and budding entrepreneur Jon Baker. When G Street attracted the attention of 4th & Broadway in 1989, the duo recorded the debut Stereo MC’s album, ‘33-45-78’.

Nick said, “When we started getting gigs around that time we thought it would be great to have live drums, even if they made the turntables bounce around. But when we went to the States, the U.S. branch of our record company said, ‘We’re not paying for a drummer to come on tour, because you don’t do that with this type of music’. There were a few barriers to cross before dance music was established as a live music force and was given equal rights in the touring and festival scene. Island Records had a good attitude to developing young acts, though, and we were given time to grow both in the studio and on the road.”

After releasing 33-45-78 the band toured with De La Soul, Living Color and A Certain Ratio. They then headed to New York to record their second album, ‘Supernatural’ in 1990, bearing the singles ‘Elevate My Mind’ (which made it into the United States R&B Charts) and ‘Lost in Music’ which was a club hit in the UK and US. This success was further cemented when they supported Happy Mondays on a US tour.

Rob said, “If we weren’t on the road or making our own tracks we were remixing for other artists. Life didn’t have a clock, you just worked and vibed until you dropped on the sofa and woke up in your clothes six hours later.”

Stereo MC’s were in demand for remix work from the likes of U2, Madonna, Tricky, Pressure Drop, David Holmes, Terranova and Mo’Wax records, as well as earlier mixes for The Jungle Brothers, Latifah and RZA. “The summer of 1992 saw us finish our 3rd LP, Connected, which we toured solidly for about 18 months after its release. It was a big success for us and everybody involved and was a beautiful moment in our development. Navigating our way through the aftermath of over-touring fatigue and life catching up with you was challenging, and for a while the creative spark was hard to find, so we went into recluse mode and built our own studio again so we could get out of the music biz domain.”

After making a mix album for the DJ Kicks series on Studio!K7 in 1999, 2001 saw the release of the band’s fourth album ‘Deep Down & Dirty’, followed by a tour that included opening for Jane’s Addiction in the US. The album’s title track became Stereo MC’s fifth consecutive Top 20 hit single in a row.

Following recordings for Pias, K7 and Graffiti they continued their long relationship with club music, starting the label ‘connected’ in 2015, initially to release their own new music, but also releasing other artists, and have since become established in the ever-popular Afro House genre. They have also collaborated with some of the biggest current names in house music via releases with Adam Port and Keinemusik and Stil Vor Talent, and have featured guest spots with Re.You , Anja Schneider, Fred Everything and many others.

  • Fun Lovin’ Criminals at Nisville

    Fun Lovin’ Criminals at Nisville

As part of the big world tour and promotion of the new album, the famous New York band Fun Lovin’ Criminals, will perform at this year’s Nisville on Sunday, August 17th.

Fun Lovin’ Criminals are a New York hip-hop band that first caught the attention of the music industry public in the second half of the 90s with his albums Come Find Yourself and 100% Columbian. What set them apart from the hip-hop scene at the time was their special sound, which the majority of the most influential music magazines such as Rolling Stone, BrumNotes and AllMusic, described as fusion of hip-hop, soul, jazz and alternative rock.

Their third album from 2001 Loco, which was released for one of the biggest world’s publishing houses at that time, the EMI, launched them to the very top of the world hip-hop scene, placing them on the fifth place by sales in the UK and among the 40 best-selling albums in the US.

Regardless of changes in world music trends in the coming period, Fun Lovin’ Criminals remained faithful to their sound, maintaining their fan base. In recent years, almost unchanged line-up, the band is more or less on continuous tour around the planet.

In September 2022, they released their last studio release to date, the Roosevelt EP

Sessions, and continued concert activity in Europe, and then in America.

Fun Lovin’ Criminals are currently in the studio recording their seventh album, which will be followed by a new world tour starting in the summer of 2025.
